LYRICS of the Lassus – Carmina Chromatica :

"The chromatic polyphonies that you hear
CARMINA CHROMATICO,
" Les polyphonies chromatiques que vous entendez
are those of the mysteries of our Salvation
QUÆ AUDIS MODULATA TENORE,
sont celles des mystères de notre Salut
predicted a long time ago by all the Sibyls
HÆC SUNT ILLA, QUIBUS NOSTRA
que les Sibylles en transe
into a prophetic trance."
OLIM ARCANA SALUTIS
prédirent en choeur il y a longtemps."

BIS SENÆ IN TREPIDO,

CECINERUNT ORE SIBYLLE.

Prophetiae Sibyllarum, prologue.

  • The medievaly colored polyphonic MIDI music(*) you should actually hear is a prelude to
the animation of the geomantic astrolab that will automatically load in a few moments...
  •

This working electronic replica of the geomantic astrolab was first planned in the "Dodechedron Project"
to be a functional simulation of the Thirteenth-Century Divinatory Device from the
British Museum (Department of Oriental Antiquities, Inv. N 1888.5-26.1).

    (*) MIDI MUSIC SOURCES & CREDITS :

  • All the "MIDI MUSIC" arrangements(2) used for this animation are an adaptation of the Orlando di Lasso
    – Carmina Chromatica and other PROPHETIAE SIBYLLARUM motets (XVIe.)
    .

The MIDI files were generated from a public domain "tablatures Zarlino" transposition of the "PROPHETIAE SIBYLLARUM" music sheet, thanks to the excellent "ZARLINO TRANSPOSER" _a French freeware !_, that you may hear thanks to the "INTERNET AMP MIDI PLAYER" ("InternetAmp 2.0", DHTML script) _ actually playing from the icon you may see below on this page_.

  • You may listen to a full Lyric version of the prologue performed by the Hilliard Ensemble from their official page at NEWWORLDCLASSICS.COM
